GM: Needs $30 Billion from US Citizens; Plans to Fire 47,000 of Those Citizens

The US government has given Citigroup $45 billion in direct cash injections while guaranteeing another $291 billion of the banks toxic (worthless) assets. Citi’s cost to the taxpayer now totals $336 billion.

GM Cutting 10,000 Jobs; Reducing Salaries

General Motors has announced that it will cut 10,000 jobs, or 12% of it’s global work force.
The majority of the U.S. job cuts is set to take place before May 1. The remaining GM workers are likely to see a 3% to 7% reduction in pay for the rest of the year.

The Automotive news reports that the U.S. auto parts industry (suppliers to GM, F) is asking for  $20.5 billion in federal aid to survive the depression.
